On the surface, they don't seem to have too much in common.
But retired broadcaster Larry King certainly seemed to enjoy his chat with rocker Gene Simmons last night, after the pair bumped into each other at a Los Angeles restaurant.
Looking sporty in a red baseball cap and jacket, the 77-year-old television star was enjoying a meal with his wife Shawn and their sons Chance, 12, and ten-year-old Cannon at California Pizza Kitchen.
And when the family group bumped into Simmons, a rocker with band KISS, the group had an animated conversation, with the 61-year-old bassist chatting away to the boys.
Dressed in a brown suit jacket and black shirt, Simmons looked a smart contrast to his more familiar outrageous stage outfits, as he arrived at the restaurant.
Meanwhile, King's family were probably hoping to finish their meal in time to catch King's guest performance on U.S. TV show "Better With You".

What do Kiss legend Gene Simmons and domestic diva Martha Stewart have in common? Luxury cars. Last week the unlikely duo shared a photo opportunity at New York's lavish Per Se restaurant during a dinner for BMW's International Auto Show.
Stewart tweeted this photo of the two, with the caption "me and kisses gene simmons who is sitting next to me at per se dinner for bmw". Late last year Stewart customized her own BMW X3 and showed it off on the Hallmark channel. A spokesperson for the auto company was proud that she had "accepted BMW's invitation to design her dream BMW X3 using BMW's 'Dream It. Build It. Drive It.' program."
BMW went a step further with Simmons and his Kiss cronies. The company has styled four Mini Coopers after each member of the band. Each car is autographed by all four Kiss bandmates and will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to UNICEF. The ten-day auction begins on May 29.
Simmons also took to Twitter about his newfound friend after the event. "Attended BMW dinner with execs for KISS Mini Coopers with Shannon [Tweed]. Sat next to funny, sweet Martha Stewart."

FBN's Jeff Flock with Kiss members unveiling the new Mini Cooper model, which will be auctioned off on eBay for UNICEF.

Smoke spurted, the curtain lifted and in rock star fashion Kiss took the stage Thursday morning at the New York auto show. The band wore full makeup, stilted heels and shiny spandex and posed next to four Mini Cooper Countrymans, customized according to each member’s face makeup pattern and persona — the Demon, the Spaceman, the Catman and the Starchild. The signed cars and other Kiss memorabilia will be auctioned for Unicef.
Gene Simmons, the bassist and vocalist, stuck out his infamous tongue and raised his arms, while the guitarist Tommy Thayer and the drummer Eric Singer lunged for the photo opportunity. The fourth Kiss member, Paul Stanley, was unable to attend because of a family emergency, Mr. Simmons said. Mini USA President Jim McDowell wore Kiss-inspired makeup and introduced the band. In their tall heels, they towered over Mr. McDowell. “I seem a little short,” he said.
“You don’t seem short,” Mr. Simmons said in response.” You are short.”
The band gathered in the basement of the Javits for interviews with Mr. McDowell after the conference. Mr. McDowell used a makeup artist for the event, but the band said they always apply the makeup themselves.
The auction begins online May 29 and runs to June 19. “We don’t make it a habit of doing press conferences and trying to convince people that we care about the planet we live and we live on the planet,” Mr. Simmons said. They also work with the charity Wounded Warriors. “We’re very blessed to lead this life.”
They have 20 concerts scheduled for this summer. “Detroit’s got its wonderful qualities and New York does too. What a great way to see America in the Mini Cooper. Wouldn’t that be cool?” Mr. Simmons said. “I’m going to get me one. I want the Demon. Jim is going to get me the Demon Mini Cooper.”
Several of the band members collect cars. “We are car aficionados,” Mr. Singer said. “I have a couple vintage cars. I go to car shows on the weekend. Southern California is the car culture of America when it comes down to it.”
When it’s time to tour, they take to the skies “We have a Kiss jet,” Mr. Thayer said. “But we’re all into cars we can appreciate great cars. Mini Coopers have a rock and roll history. Back in the ’60s the Beatles used to drive Mini Coopers, Paul McCartney, John Lennon.”
None of the Kiss members drive Minis, but they each expressed an interest in driving Minis around Los Angeles. “Not as many cars would look good with your face wrapped on them,” Mr. McDowell said.

Gene Simmons, founder of the rock band KISS, has given shares of Intertainment Media Inc. (INT-X22.214.171.124%) a shot in the arm after becoming a pitchman for the Toronto-based firm’s social media and translation website.
Intertainment hit a 52-week intraday high of $3.35 a share Tuesday before sliding to close up 10 cents at $2.25 as more than 64 million shares changed hands on the TSX Venture Exchange. The company, which has reported no earnings and no significant revenue to date, has seen its stock gain a whopping 2,150 per cent this year.
“It’s getting a little crazy,” says Peter Hodson, a portfolio manager at Sprott Inc. who bought Intertainment shares between 50 and 70 cents a share in early February.
There is “chatter” on the Street that Mr. Simmons plans to soon do a demonstration with his fans around the world on Intertainment’s Ortsbo.com site so “that is perhaps what is driving the stock,” Mr. Hodson said. “ I am not a big KISS fan, but Gene has been very entrepreneurial. He has turned a mediocre rock band into a worldwide conglomerate.”
Intertainment has gained $1.58 a share over 11 sessions after Mr. Simmons agreed to become a shareholder and also a promoter for Ortsbo. The website says it enables users to hold online chats in more than 50 languages, with immediate translation of their text messages.

There was something otherworldly about the share price gyrations Tuesday of Intertainment Media — the social media wunderkind that got its start in Ottawa a decade ago.
Intertainment shares exploded out of the gate, soaring 56 per cent to $3.35 at 10:34 a.m. on the TSX Venture Exchange. Thirty-four minutes later, the shares had slumped 46 per cent, then finally finished the day at $2.25 per share. Nearly 100 million shares traded hands — compared with fewer than 19 million the same day for tech giant Research in Motion.
At its peak Tuesday Intertainment had a market value of $420 million — astonishing in light of the fact its sales in fiscal 2010 topped barely $4 million.
The source of all the excitement? Software translation technology marketed by Intertainment’s Ortsbo subsidiary and its spokesman Gene Simmons, the bass guitarist for the rock group KISS.
David Lucatch, Intertainment’s CEO, revealed Monday that the Ortsbo translator was attracting more than 12 million unique visitors each month — an impressive rise since last July, when the product was launched. Lucatch compared his website’s traffic to that of Facebook, which took nearly three years to reach the same level — though the comparison isn’t really fair. After all, Facebook’s earliest fans had to be registered with their university. But, no matter, Ortsbo is certainly a hit.

We’ve been hearing about Castle‘s Los Angeles excursion, but now comes the first look at the episode airing May 2. In the episode, called “To Love and Die in L.A.,” Beckett (Stana Katic) goes rogue and follows a suspect in the shooting death of her former partner to Los Angeles against orders. Castle (Nathan Fillion) tags along, and they end up visiting the set of the Heat Wave movie and enlist the cast to help break the case. Sadly, Laura Prepon won’t recur as the actress playing Nikki Heat, the heroine of Castle‘s crime novels inspired by Beckett. But we will get to meet the two actors playing the fictionalized versions of Esposito and Ryan. (That’s some solid casting with Justice Gamble and Ryan Deal, respectively).
Rock star Gene Simmons pops up as himself and the owner of the Beverly Hills mansion where the victim was living — we’ve got your first look at his guest spot above. Other guest stars include Prison Break‘s Dominic Purcell as a local businessman who may have a connection to the murder, The Cutting Edge‘s D.B. Sweeney as a detective in Robbery Homicide who questions Castle and Beckett about their rogue investigation, and Off the Map‘s Jason George as an entrepreneur with a connection to the murder case. I’m guessing we’re supposed to be most intrigued by this line in ABC’s episode description, “As they get closer to apprehending their killer, Castle begins to wonder whether Beckett is out for justice…or revenge,” but really, I’m most excited to see faux Esposito and Ryan. You?

Trading in his platform boots and skin-tight spandex for a business suit and loafers, Kiss founder Gene Simmons has signed on as corporate pitchman for Toronto-based Ortsbo Inc.
Simmons, a NYSU graduate who speaks several languages, will use his prodigious tongue to promote Ortsbo and its translation software.
The application translates Internet messages into 50 languages across 12 social media platforms, including Facebook and China’s instant messaging service Tencent QQ.
“Ortsbo takes a sledgehammer to the Tower of Babel that is modern communication,” Simmons said. “It connects humanity in real time. We are all one people.”
Suggesting he was made for his new role, which includes input on branding and other creative matters, Simmons said, “Ortsbo has changed my life. An online translation service with users spread all over the planet is getting some help from a man who knows what it takes to create a global brand: Gene Simmons.
The Kiss frontman and serial entrepreneur has signed on with Intertainment Media's Ortsbo as a business partner and spokesman.
Ortsbo, which means "local" in Swedish, functions as a real-time filter for translating 53 different languages across 12 leading social media platforms, from Facebook to China's Tencent QQ. Users type messages in their native languages that are instantly translated in a fashion more seamless than the cutting and pasting of textrequired in Google's Translate service.
The software can also be utilized across instant messaging, email and RSS. While Ortsbo is free on social media, some of its offerings require payment, including mobile apps to be deployed this summer.
The technology resonated both personally with Simmons, an Israeli immigrant who arrived in the U.S. as a child with a Hungarian-born mother, as well as on a professional level. A one-man merchandising machine for both his band and himself, he discussed Ortsbo in an interview from a room in his Beverly Hills home teeming with Kiss gear, including a branded motorcycle and coffin.
"Ortsbo takes a sledgehammer to the Tower of Babel that is modern communication," Simmons said. "It connects humanity. We are all one people."
Simmons will function as more than mere pitchman, informing corporate strategy and even redesigning the Ortsbo logo for the recently relaunched website.
Ortsbo boasts impressive growth for a service barely 9 months old. The website already reaches 9 million unique monthly users from 170 countries.
Simmons noted numerous potential applications for the entertainment business since Ortsbo can allow stars to speak to fans in more than one country simultaneously. "Any pop culture entity has to be worldwide," he said.
Simmons shows no signs of slowing down these days; he and his family are currently shooting a seventh season of A&E's "Gene Simmons' Family Jewels." The longest-running celebrity reality series on TV, "Jewels" has been exported to more than 80 countries.
Here is a proud Father and his beautiful daughter, Sophie...who rocked it the other night at Harrel's club...by singing with the terrific Brenna Whitaker Band (thank you Brenna). Soph sang a Julie London song and an Etta James song.
Soph will be singing next Sunday at the W Hotel in LA.

Castle is about to get rocked by legendary KISS frontman Gene Simmons.
TVLine has exclusively learned that Simmons will appear as his badass self in Castle‘s Los Angeles-set murder-mystery episode, set to air in early May.
Per an ABC insider, Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) follow a lead straight to their victim’s Beverly Hills home, which just so happens to be owned by the rock superstar. Turns out, said victim had been living in the pad’s guest house prior to the incident. After a quick chat with Simmons in his fictional Beverly Hills backyard, the crimefighting pair sets off to continue their trek through La-La Land.

I've gotten a handful of emails asking if I was proud and grateful to be living in America.
The answer is, of course.
I came to America as a child, with my Mother.
I became a Naturalized Citizen through my mother as a child of 12 years of age.
Since then, America has welcomed me with open arms as if I was her own child.
For that, and for saving the world from Nazism and Communism, I will be forever grateful.
Proud to be an American.

Our trip to Israel was a life changing experience.
My Father, who left us when I was 7 years old in Israel... then remarried. He was married 6 times (!!!) that we know of. And, may have had other relationships. I met (for the first time) my half brother and sisters... and here they are, from left to right: Oegenia, Kobi, myself, Sharon and Drora (who I actually met in New York many years ago).
My Brother and Sisters are charming, sweet and to be admired. I love them.
The whole story will be seen this summer on Season Seven of GENE SIMMONS FAMILY JEWELS.
Here's young Nick, in a boat on the Sea of Galilee. We're not sure, but there seemed to be footprints on the water in the distance.
Here I am in Jerusalem. In the background is the old city. Home to the three major religions of the world = Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In fact, in back of the old walled city, all the religions have their own sections...
He said to me, "I don't know why you wear a bra, you've got nothing to put in it."
I said to him, "You wear underwear don't you?"
He said to me, "Shall we try swapping positions tonight?"
I said, "That's a good idea - you stand by the stove & sink, while I sit on the sofa and do nothing but fart."
He said to me, "What have you been doing with all the grocery money I gave you?"
I said to him, "Turn sideways and look in the mirror!"
He said to me, "Why don't women blink during foreplay?"
I said to him, "They don't have time."
He said to me, "How many men does it take to change a roll of toilet paper?"
I said to him, "I don't know; it has never happened."
He said to me, "Why is it difficult to find men who are sensitive, caring and good-looking?"
I said to him, "They already have boyfriends."
He said, "What do you call a woman who knows where her husband is every night?"
I said, "A widow."
He said to me, "Why are married women heavier than single women?"
I said to him, "Single women come home, see what's in the fridge, and go to bed.
Married women come home, see what's in bed, and go to the fridge."
