Hi Gene,

When my son was in the second grade, we discovered that he had a learning disability. It wasn't anything too serious but could have become a major issue had we not found out when we did. This disability also caused him to hate the thought of going to school. We made the difficult decision of keeping him back for one year and having him repeat second grade while we worked with the school department on a plan to help him. At the beggining of each school year, we met with his new teachers and together we developed a plan for that year. Over the years, he had the help of some great teachers and my wife and I made many sacrifices in order to help our son with his school work. It wasn't always easy but our efforts paid off when he recently graduated from high school, made the honor roll and won several other awards. When a friend of ours asked my son how he managed to do so well. He answered by saying that he had the help and support of my wife and I, his teachers were always there when he needed extra help and he was inspired by Gene Simmons. He told them how you came to the United States as a child who could not speak English. How you realized that America is the land of opportunity and that the only way to become a success is to get of your ass and work hard. There are no shortcuts, you must do the work. He now plans on continuing his education and is studying Graphic Communications and hopes to design artwork and stage sets for bands. I thought that as a former teacher that you would enjoy his story. Too often, the work that teachers do goes unnoticed and unappreciated.

Kevin

Response from Gene:

Good for you. You must be proud of your son. I, too was left back one grade. When I first came to America I couldn't speak a word of English and therefore, couldn't do well in school. A lesson worth learning. People made fun of me. "What're you? Stupid? Can't you even speak English?:
Work hard and you can have those people working for you.

Gene...

I'm a Big KISS fan ..and love your Show Family Jewels....I would like your opinion on Bass Guitars for I believe you would be the worlds best subject matter expert.....I play with an Ibanez DS200 and It was fine for a long while but now I am ready to make an investment into a real quality , great tone , deep, hard rockin Guitar..I like the Warwick $$ Cadillac Double Buck and The Marcus Miller Fender Jazz Bass...I Don't make a lot of Money so I want my purchase to be a quality investment. What do you recommend ?

Response from Gene:

Honestly, the entire guitar/bass discussion forum is unnecessary. Use your ears. If you like what you hear, buy it. Otherwise, it's tough to figure out what guitars/bass people use...live or otherwise.
Reason? First, the amp has different settings. Then, your pedals change the sound. Then, the sound gets miked (a microphone is set up), and gets sent through larger speakers and a mix board, which changes the sound again. Go to a concert, close your eyes and tell me the brand name of the instruments, cymbals, drum heads or almost anything....and in either case, the masses just don't care about those things. They never have. Which is why all sorts of bands, that use all sorts of instrument brands have successful careers. Play what you like. The rest doesn't matter.

Gene--

as a practicing tax attorney your "advice" to people wanting to start a business is the same stuff i give every other day to people who have no friggin' clue on how to effectively get their idea off the ground.....keep up the good work

Gene and Shannon,

My wife and I love you and your show. However, we have a little difficulty with your “happily un-married” part. Do either of you realize that in most states they have common law marriage clauses? After that much time together, I am sure that you two are considered a married couple. All you need is the license that states that. So you may as well make the leap and do it.

Alan Lilley B.S.

Response from Gene:

Kindly do the research. We have a Cohabitation Agreement, with Individual Counsel. It negates all laws of the land re relationships.
You may want to get one yourselves. Thanks for the kind email.

Gene-

What are your thoughts concerning these recent "360 deals" that are popping up?
Seems to me like the record companies are saying, "Hey, we're not making squat from your record sales, so give us a cut of your merch. and box office or we drop ya',"
Maybe I'm off. But that's what it looks like to me.

Response from Gene:

You got it right. Reason record companies are doing 360 deals? They didn't stop (sue) people from downloading/file sharing. Result? They go after the bands. That's life.

Hi Gene,

I love how people like Adam challenge you. I find it interesting that most of information he presented can be found on Internet, books, or from a producer's assistant. I'm not saying he hasn't produced film because I don't know him. However, in business there are some clues to truth in the way people write or speak. Anyone with years of experience as you would know the difference. We can easily be fooled with a personal letter, but business is something different, education and experience provide a different ground.

I read the Portfolio.com article you posted on your site. You were spot on with all answers and comments. I have to say I agree with you most of the time, and I only wish the answers could come easier. We do have solutions to many problems, but lawyers, politicians, judges, or some fluke blocks them in our laws. Then we have years of passing laws and/or fighting to get our day in court. The day my uncle was murdered I learned life was not fair. Whether it is fate or unjust event we can only try and hope justice will be sought. This is why I work so hard, because each day is different, and we never know what the next will bring. Without hard work you can't have the American dream, anything else is only a Cockaigne.

You're right, United Nations hasn't done a thing, and they are an embarrassment. I hope the next time you're on Hannity and Colmes you say that loud and clear. Your opinions are needed and you have the ability to be heard. From all the letters you have posted from people in the military, their families, to the fans, your peers are not hearing you. It feels as though you are the only celebrity doing and showing support for our troops.

In Sunday's show, I have to say I truly appreciate all the servicemen/women on the USS Nimitz. I would have been hanging my head over the porcelain pot with you. And...the next time you decide to baby-sit active children.......a little Velcro on them and walls will keep them in place, lol.

Poor Nick got his car impounded. I have an impound lot along with repossession. It's only 2 months out of the year. The township requires rotation of various lots to make things fair. It's police impound.......... DUI's, unregistered/inspected cars, warrants, accidents, and illegally parked cars. We also have a year around impound lot in the city. If you have ever watch "Parking Wars" it will give you the idea of what goes on, we are in the same city as the show. As you can see, we don't stop at one business.
Back to Nick.... these things happen and they are an expensive lesson. He handled everything well including his return to pay the bill at the restaurant, of course I wouldn't expect anything less from your son.

A cohabitation agreement states there is no intent for marriage. If you were to say. "I live like I was married, or I'd like to be married," this could be considered a binding verbal agreement, and go against what was written in your cohabitation agreement. Therefore, you can never say that you want marriage. This is unlike a prenup that can be challenge in court. This happens all the time due to the fact there's a legal marriage where a judge can intervene.
Everyone entering marriage should know that in a divorce the legal system can intervene against you, whereas a cohabitation agreement is just between the parties involved.
