I know in the past their have been a few people mixing your name with another man who recently passed. His name was Jumpin' Gene Simmons. He wrote a song called Haunted House. I believe he had a hit with the song and also worked with Elvis. Hey, you two have the same name though he was known as Jumpin' Gene. Did you have any nicknames growing up or have any currently ?

Response from Gene:

Jumpin' Gene Simmons just passed away, sadly. Simmons is best known for his Hi Records recording "Haunted House".
I am the 'other' Gene Simmons.
And for those of you who have emailed wondering: I am alive and well, thank you. In fact, they have to drag me kicking and screaming. I ain't going anywhere.

Gene,

I saw this on line this morning.. I thought it may be of interest. More than once, I have run across the Rockabilly "Gene Simmons" in my search for all things associated with The God of Thunder: Gene Simmons...Just in case anyone EVER got confused...Read this:

Rockabilly Singer Simmons Dies at 69

By Associated Press

Wed Aug 30

TUPELO, Miss. - Rockabilly singer and songwriter Jumpin' Gene Simmons, who worked with Elvis Presley and had a top 20 hit in 1964 with the bouncy "Haunted House," has died. He was 69.

He died Tuesday at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a long illness, according to Holland-Harris Funeral Directors.

Simmons _ not to be confused with the Kiss bassist with the same name _ was in show business for more than 50 years, working with such names as Sam Phillips and the Bill Black Combo. More recently, he co-wrote "Indian Outlaw," which became a big hit in 1994 for country superstar Tim McGraw.

But his biggest success came in 1964 with the novelty song "Haunted House," which reached No. 11 on the Billboard pop chart and launched Simmons on a world tour.

Among other early gigs, he performed as an opening act for Presley in Tupelo, Presley's birthplace and Simmons' longtime hometown, as Presley's career was taking off, said his son, Cary Simmons.

After appearing in some Memphis clubs, Simmons signed with Sun Records, the legendary Memphis label formed by Phillips that launched the careers of Presley, Johnny Cash and other stars.

While he didn't have the chart success of other Sun performers, Simmons' recordings have become known to later generations through reissues. Brian Setzer did a version of Simmons' "Peroxide Blonde in a Hopped Up Model Ford" on his "Rockabilly Riot Vol. 1: A Tribute to Sun Records."

Simmons, born in Itawamba County in 1937, spent most of his life in Northeast Mississippi although he lived for a time in Memphis. Besides his son, survivors include his mother, a sister, and two brothers.

From the "PINK IS THE NEW BLOG",

"Okay ... so yesterday I managed to catch a few episodes of the new A&E reality show Gene Simmons: Family Jewels and immediately fell in love with it. I have seen the billboards advertising the show but never thought to check it out because I never watch A&E. While flipping thru the channels yesterday I paused to check out one of the episodes and was totally hooked:

The thing that struck me most is that this reality show about an aging heavy metal rocker and his family is way more engaging than that other reality show about an aging heavy metal rocker and his family. It's very much the anti-Osbournes in that Gene Simmons still has brain cells and is very intelligent, Shannon Tweed doesn't cuss at her children and the children, Nick and Sophie, appear to be extremely well-adjusted. This show is really cute ... it's cool to see the blood-spitting, fire-eating Demon from the band KISS all settled down with his very normal family in a sick mansion in the hills of Hollywood, CA. I think this show is being hurt by the fact that it's on A&E because who watches A&E? I'm glad I caught it ... I deff plan on watching all the episodes I can. Check out the show's official My Space profile HERE.

Sidebar, I don't have any cool KISS stories except for the fact that one of my college roommates from OKC, Melissa Thomas, used to date the most insane KISS fan ever. Donnie Dorn spent every bit of his extra money on KISS memorabilia ... his room was a veritable shrine to all things KISS. I was amazed and a little frightened by his devotion (he loved that I was from Detroit Rock City). I'm pretty certain that Donnie is out there watching this Gene Simmons show somewhere out there.

"Gene,

Happy Birthday!
I wanted to take a few minutes to say thanks for how gracious you were when we met at the KISS Coffeehouse. I was fortunate enough to be one of the winners of the KISSONLINE Contest which afforded me the opportunity to fulfill one of my life long dreams of having a picture taken with you. I really appreciate the time you spent talking to me and my wife and for the autographing the pictures she took of you on the Reunion Tour. I have read where some people say you aren’t appreciative of the fans, but I find that hard to believe after meeting you. I was also impressed that both you and Paul stayed until the last fan came through the line. I will treasure the memories and the autographed pictures for the rest of my life. There isn’t enough money on eBay or anywhere else to get those autographed pictures of you and Paul out of my possession. When you go out on Tour again, I hope to be able to get a picture taken with the Demon..."

The one you picked up as the vocalist, is a true rocknroller that was in the closet, but he never new that. So it cracked me up, in a good way, to see this kid got his role so seriously, and cameras showed him with his headphones on, must of the time..."

GENE SIMMONS FAMILY JEWELS

The premiere episode  was the most watched series premiere of any A&E show since the launch of Dog the Bounty Hunter in August of 2004. There have been 12 new prime-time series since that date.

Our first two episodes averaged 1.9 million total viewers (up 106% vs. A&E's Monday 10-11pm time period average), 1.3 million 18-49 (up 160%) and 1.3 million 25-54 (up 149%).

Anyone in the television business will tell you it's not how you start, but now you finish, so as happy as we were with the ratings for our premiere, the real litmus test was how we did in week two. Did we keep our viewers?

Well, the results are now in from Monday night's second week showing and we're even a bigger hit then we were in our premiere week.

And even though our numbers continue to be great, the nation is now learning about Nick and Sophie, who are fast becoming big stars in their own right.

Greetings.

Mine is not a question, but simply a thank you [and that can be read with dripping sarcasm].

My man and I have been together for over 12 years; living together most of that time. He loves me; wants to be with me, etc., but WILL NOT marry me.

Monday night, however,  we were watching the premiere of your television show, and what pearls of wisdom do you spout? Marriage is an institution; you have to be committed; that’s nuts. Needless to say, I’ll be hearing that from time to time.

Mike Douglas Signs Off

by Joal Ryan
Aug 11, 2006, 5:55 PM PT

"Tiger Woods putted. Gene Simmons wagged his tongue. John Lennon cohosted. The Mike Douglas Show was nothing if not fearlessly devoted to variety.

Mike Douglas, the genial namesake host of the 1963-1982 talk show that in its own genial way beamed the counterculture right into the American kitchenette, died on his 81st birthday Friday..."

"...Guests on the long-running show were an eclectic bunch: Muhammad Ali; Liberace; Sly Stone; Judy Garland; Brian Wilson; the two-year-old Tiger Woods (his TV debut); and the fully costumed, fully demonized KISS version of Gene Simmons.

"I'm evil incarnate," Simmons hissed while sitting on stage between Douglas and Vegas comedian Totie Fields.

In the 1974 episode, Fields theorized that Simmons, underneath all the makeup, really was just a "nice Jewish boy"; Douglas politely inquired about the origins of his "getup." Neither seemed fazed by the monster antics. After all, nothing ever bad ever happened on The Mike Douglas Show..."

My son thoroughly enjoyed when you cleaned the cat box, and "gave the dog a bath". The way you are with Shannon and your kids is something special. When the show was over, I gave my son a big hug. It had that kind of an impact. I'd have to say that your show is the "Anti-Osbournes". Can't wait til the next episode. It'll be a family viewing.

A&E reality series to focus on Gene Simmons and family

A&E Network
"Gene Simmons Family Jewels" will premiere on Monday on the A&E Network. From left are Nick, Sophie, Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed.

By Luaine Lee
McClatchy-Tribune News Service

Who woulda thought a former Playmate of the Year and scorching blonde from TV soaps would end up president of the PTA?

Shannon Tweed, statuesque co-star on such shows as "Frasier," "Married With Children" and "Wings," may be better known as the longtime mate of Gene Simmons, lead guru of the band Kiss.

"We're not married," she says right off. "We've been together for 23 years in August."

The secret to their success? She says, "Don't get married, don't get divorced. I'm not the jealous type, really. Other than girls throwing themselves on him physically, I really don't get bothered by the attention he gets. You never know what happens when you're not there -- but leave that alone, why would you want to go there? And don't nag: 'When you coming home? I waited and yah, yah, yah.' Get a life," she says, easing her 6-foot tall frame onto a low velvet couch.

The partnership of this former hick from Canada and one of the world's most famous rockers will be chronicled on the new reality show "Gene Simmons Family Jewels," premiering Monday on A&E.

Raised on a mink farm in Newfoundland, one of seven children, Tweed was 24 when she moved to Los Angeles. "I started all my wildness kind of late in life. ... At one point my dream was to be in the Sears catalog. I was from a small town, and to me that was gigantic."

Not nearly as gigantic as it became. Soon she was Hugh Hefner's girlfriend, waltzing on the wild side and capitalizing on her breathless looks in shows like "Falcon Crest" and "Days of Our Lives." In fact, she met Simmons at a party at Hefner's lair.

"It was his first time there," she recalls, her blond hair spilling over the shoulder of her black dress.

"He got there with two other girls who brought him there for his birthday, and my sister and a music producer, Richard Perry, introduced me to him. And I was not that impressed. He wasn't really my type when I looked at him, but he grows on you. He did this tap dance, he was dancing as fast as he could and was really trying to impress me so I gave him a second look," she smiles.

Instead of Tweed taming the rock star, it was the other way around.

"Gene was my sobering device," she admits. "And I was a little tipsy when I met him. And that was the last time I was drunk, and that was 23 years ago. And I haven't been drunk since then. I actually stopped drinking completely for about 20 years."

The couple have two children, Sophie, 14, and Nick, 18. The kids weren't prepared for the amount of work involved in a reality show, says Tweed. "They didn't have a weekend off for the year. They can't go to their friend's house unless they give permission for the camera to follow. So mostly we were confined to our own activities with each other," she says.

"In a way they understand now how being in the limelight is not an easy-ride thing. I have no idea what pressure someone like Katie Holmes must be under. I saw her shopping at Neiman Marcus before the baby, and everybody stopped shopping and were staring at what shoes she was trying on. That's not fun, I think. I can breeze through virtually unnoticed. The payoff is she'd make more money than I do, but I don't know if I'd trade."

Tweed sighs. "At one point I would've traded anything for that. But I'll be 50, and I don't think I'd trade anything for that now."

Review: Gene Simmons Family Jewels
Written By Rick Ellis, Friday, August 4th, 2006

Following the success of shows like "The Osbournes" and "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica," every singer looking to hawk their new CD or get a little extra press seems to have signed on to do a reality series. And for the most part, they've been total wastes of time.

As a kid growing up in the Midwest in the 1970's, I certainly spent a lot of time listening to KISS albums. And while I've always admired the business abilities of Gene Simmons, the thought of watching a show about his family life didn't excite me. In fact, I nearly had to be tied to a chair to watch the initial episode of "Gene Simmons Family Jewels."

Boy, was I an idiot.

Like the best reality shows, "Family Jewels" has less to do with Simmons career than his family life. And surprisingly, it's a pretty darn funny life to watch unfold.

Simmons has been with former Playboy model Shannon Tweed for 23 years, and they have two kids: 13-year-old Sophie and 17-year-old Nick. Their life doesn't seem all that weird, given the fact that the head of the household is Gene Simmons.

But what makes the show really work is the fact that for all of his success and ego, he's just another Dad, making dorky comments to his kids and embarrassing them at nearly every opportunity.

The first episode focuses on his relationship with Nick, who leads a band and has some dream of becoming a professional musician. Lean, lanky and handsome, he certainly has the rock star look, but unfortunately for him, he also has the rock star dad.

Gene wants to do everything for him and spends much of his excess energy focusing on his son's career like some deranged rock-and-roll stage dad. Without being asked, he picks a name for his son's band, trademarks it, and creates a logo. Yes, you can see the problems coming from a mile away.

There are a number of really funny moments in the pilot, but there are two that stand out.

The first involves another one of Gene's schemes to boost his son's rock-and-roll career. He books the band a gig in Hollywood without telling them, then hires a plane to fly a banner around L.A., promoting the show. He drags his son out into the front yard to show off his handiwork, and seems confused that no one else seems to share in his excitement.

The second highlight involves a segment in which Gene and Nick go to Melrose to buy Nick some clothes. Everything seems to be going reasonably well into Gene looks at a t-shirt at some trendy vintage clothing store, and spies a KISS shirt clearance priced at $2.00.

Now while I really enjoyed the first episode, I'm also realistic about how these shows are put together. Simmons is a smart guy, and I'm sure he's wise enough to craft the show to be entertaining without sharing anything too embarrassing with the viewers.

But with that caveat, it's easy for me to recommend watching "Gene Simmons Family Jewels." It's easily one of the most entertaining shows of the summer, and I never would have expected that from a guy best known for his enormous tongue.

prove your true love with kiss!

Gene,

when i was 8 I fell in love with a boy. He was a HUGE KISS fan, so naturally, to prove my love for him he made me memorize all of the KISS band members names. That wasnt enough for him I guess, but 26 years later I met a fireman named Ryan with all of the KISS symbols tattooed on his arm. when I asked him who his favorite member was, and could tell him all of your names, he knew it was true love! 2 years later, we got married! (just 1 month ago on june 30th) I guess memorizing all of your names when I was 8 really was the way to prove true love.
(I never forgot, I just hadnt found the right fan yet)
P.S. we went to BOTH shows at the chumash casino (my 1st show, his 8th) and LOVED every second.
your lifelong fan,
Karen

August 1st -

We started off today doing a ton of press for our GENE SIMMONS FAMILY JEWELS show on A&E -- it premiers this Monday. Watch it.
HOWARD STERN was at the crack of dawn. We all know and love Howard, but if you do his show, your guard better be up. He is bright and will go for the jugular...because it's funny. But, Howard was clearly smitten with Miss Shannon Tweed. All he could do was talk about how classy and beautiful she is. And, of course, he's right.
We then went over to see BARBARA WALTERS and ABC's THE VIEW. If you missed Barbara and I dancing at the top of the show, or our beautiful daughter Miss Sophie pulling the rug out from under her Dad, which caused me to throw myself on the floor in front of everyone...you missed it.
Lots of radio interviews followed, and then..
We ended the day at MARTIN SHORT's one man show in New York. Martin was hilarious..sang...joked...and --- pulled me out of the audience. He sits me down next to him in the middle of the show and (I'm completely at a loss as to what he's got planned) he proceeds to bring everyone in the theater (and yours truly) to tears...laughing our butts off.
   Go see his show!!!
